PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a desired carbonate compound in a high selectivity without causing problems of environmental contamination and without passing through complex steps. SOLUTION: This method of producing a carbonate compound comprises carrying out transesterification between a cyclic carbonate compound and/or noncyclic carbonate compound and a monovalent hydroxyl group-containing compound in the presence of a salt of a metal element selected from IA group, IIA group, IIB group and IIIA group in carbon dioxide in supercritical and/or subcritical state.
