PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a benzoxazine derivative or a benzodiazine by a condensation and ring formation reaction not using an organic solvent having a fear of exerting a bad influence on environment. SOLUTION: This method of producing a compound of general formula (3) (Xs are each independently an inert substituent group; Ys are each independently an inert substituent group; m is an integer of 0-4; n is an integer of 0-5; Q is O when Z is OH and NH when Z is NH2) comprises reacting an aniline derivative of general formula (1) (X and m are each as shown in the general formula (3); Z is OH or NH2) with a benzaldehyde derivative of general formula (2) (Y and n are each as shown in the general formula (3)) in the presence of an ionic liquid.
