FULLERENE-CARBORANE RIGID ROD HYBRID COMPOUND AND METHOD OF SYNTHESIZING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound suitable as a nonlinear optical material exhibiting great second harmonic generation(SHG). SOLUTION: This fullerene-carborane rigid rod hybrid compound comprises a carborane connected to a fullerene by a conjugated cross-linking aromatic group. The carborane is represented by the following chemical formula (m-CB) or the following chemical formula (p-CB) and the fullerene is C60 represented by the following chemical formula. The conjugated cross-linking aromatic group is characterized in that the group is represented by the following chemical formula (BA-1).
