A cellulosic sausage casing in the form of a flattened tube is closed by forming a series of longitudinally extending pleats in one end of the casing, compressing the pleated portion, forming a hole in said portion free from cuts and tears, and inserting and forming rivet means within said hole to secure said compressed and pleated portion. The rivet may be solid or an eyelet. Suspension means may be attached to the casing by the rivet, which means may be for example a loop of string or a strap of material such as polypropylene. |
