PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient structure of a mortar with which a grinding stick can be sufficiently used by one person while a conventional mortar needs another person for fixing the mortar because the area of its bottom is relatively smaller than that of its top and the grinding stick can not be sufficiently used by one person. SOLUTION: The mortar is provided with a stable based (2) the area of the bottom of which is increased for stabilizing mortars (1 and 11) or a mortar stabilizing and holding side plate (10). Also, a mortar stabilizing and supporting plate (7) is bonded to the bottom of the mortar (6) and is integrated into the mortar (6) for maintaining stability. The mortar (21) is set on mortar stabilizing and holding side plates (22) and (30) and on the central opening of a mortar stabilizing and holding cylinder (43) and is fixed to enable one person to efficiently grind different kinds of grain. Grinding stick stoppers (8) and (17) are formed by corrugating the upper periphery of the mortar for placing the grinding stick (5) which rolls and is unstable and grinding stick holders (5, 14, 27, 31 and 41) and grinding stick receiving holes (23, 26 and 32) are further formed for keeping the grinding stick (15). By curving the upper part of the mortar toward the inside, the stuff which is ground upward falls by gravity and continuous grinding operations can be performed.
