PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate loading-unloading work of a cargo to a rear loading space by restraining the loading space height in the same as an ordinary bicycle even if a battery unit is installed on the rear loading space, to attain travel stability and stopping time stability at stand using time, to improve external appearance design by maximally thinning the unit, and to prevent impairment of a role as an ordinary rear loading space even if the unit is arranged on a rear wheel. SOLUTION: In this power assist bicycle 1, the battery unit 30 is provided with battery cases 31, 32 having a battery housing box of rectangular solids in tandem in the bilateral symmetry at an interval, single batteries 3 housed in a transversely installed state in the respective cases, a power supply connector 39 and a charging connector 38 installed on the front end of the battery cases 31, 32, a front side battery case receiving frame 34 and a rear side battery case receiving frame 35 being installed on the lower side front and rear ends of the rear loading space 20 and supporting the battry cases, and is constituted so as to be flatly mountable on the lower side in an occupying plane of the rear loading space 20.
