PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably fixing a fine particulate photocatalyst on a substrate, and a method for decomposing toxic substances by using the fixed photocatalyst. SOLUTION: This photocatalyst is fixed on the substrate of an ultraviolet transmitting material, such as quartz glass, by any one of a dipping method, a spray method, and a spin-coat method. The toxic substances are brought into contact with the resulting photocatalyst to be decomposed. The toxic substances are, for example, halogenated aromatic compounds, such as dioxins, and endocrine disruptors. By this fixing method, the reagglomeration of the photocatalyst is prevented, and the catalytic activity and the handling ability are improved at the same time. |
