PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a whole rotary vertical shuttle body in which needle thread caught with a rotating hook can smoothly rotate around the shuttle body without resistance and which is easy in maintenance. SOLUTION: A rotating hook 5 rotated by a shuttle body drive shaft 3 equipped on the shuttle body support body 2 of a sewing machine and a shuttle body 6 fit relatively rotatably inside the rotating hook 5 are equipped on this whole rotary vertical shuttle body. An engaging projection 17 of a shuttle body support 14 fixed on the shuttle support body 2 is fit with play in a recess part 16 for rotation stopping formed on the front outer periphery of the shuttle body 6. An abutting part 20 which can abut on a stopper part 18 equipped on the shuttle body support 14 is formed on the more downstream side in the rotation direction of the rotating hook 5 than the recess 16 on the outer periphery of the shuttle body 6, and the abutting part 20 is made abut on the stopper part 18 when the rotating hook 5 is rotating. Thus, an engaging face 16a on upstream side in the rotation direction of the rotating hook 5 and an engaging face 16b on downstream side are held in a condition separate from the engaging projection 17.
