PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the content of a carbonyl compound which is an impurity from a raw material alcohol produced by catalytically reducing a natural oil and fat, a fatty acid or an aliphatic acid ester. SOLUTION: After stopping operation of catalytic reduction reaction, the inside of the reactor is retained at a temperature not lower than the melting point of the above raw material alcohol in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen atmosphere and heated to at least >=120 deg.C when operation of the above reduction reaction is reopened. This method maintains and recovers catalytic activity and reduces the carbonyl compound which is an impurity and enables continuous production of extremely high-quality and high-purity alcohol. |
