PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an α-amino acid amide from an α-aminonitrile in a high yield almost without formation of by-product through a safe and simple process. SOLUTION: In an aqueous medium, α-aminonitrile is hydrated in the presence of a ketone and a strong basic substance, then mineral acid is added to the solution including the α-amino acid amide and the α-amino acid amide mineral acid salt formed is separated and collected. In another embodiment, α- aminonitrile is hydrated in an aqueous medium in the presence of a ketone and a strong basic substance, a mineral acid is added to the liquid included the α-amino acid amide and the α-amino acid amide mineral acid salt formed is separated, recovered, and finally neutralized to give the objective α-amino acid amide. |
