PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a rubberlike elastic material of a linear coating object by which the rubberlike elastic material can be uniformly applied to coat the upper/lower faces, the side face of the upper/lower faces and a space between the side face and linear part of a single linear coating object or each of a plurality of pieces of the linear coating object as well as a coating device therefor. SOLUTION: This coating device has a cover head 5 mounted, in a freely attachable/detachable manner, at an outlet part 3a of an extrusion head 3 fitted to an adapter plate 2 of an extrusion machine 1 through a fitting member 4. In addition, in the neighborhood of an outlet part 3a in a discharge hole 3b of the extrusion head 3, a freely attachable/detachable guide block 8 is installed through a guide receiving member 12 fitted to the inner wall face of the discharge hole 3b. Further, the guide block 8 guides the rubberlike elastic member W extruded from the cylinder part 7 of the extrusion machine 1 in such a way that the material W flows, divided into the upper and the lower part centered around the linear coating object 6.
