Chroman compound preparation comprises reacting a keto-isophorone with acylating agent using a protonic acid to give a trimethylhydroquinone ester (TMHQ-E), cooling, separating and washing the product with recycle of the solvent; reacting product directly with an allyl alcohol (derivative) in the presence of zinc halides and protogenic acids, and separating product, with further optional work-up. Chroman compound preparation comprises: (1) reacting a ketoisophorone (KIP) with an acylation agent using a protonic acid to give a trimethylhydroquinone ester (TMHQ-E) then cooling to 5-40 degrees C, and separating and washing the crystallized product and recycling solvent from separation and wash steps to the next step (1) reaction; (2) reacting the optionally washed product without drying with an allyl alcohol (derivative) in the presence of zinc halides and protogenic acids, and (3) optionally after further acylation, separating off the crystallized product and optionally working up in an organic solvent.
|
