PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of selectively reducing an α-haloester compound represented by a general formula [A] contained in a solution. SOLUTION: A solution containing an ester compound represented by a general formula [C] [wherein Y represents oxygen atom or the like; G represents phenyl group which may be substituted; R1 represents a hydrogen atom or the like, R2 represents a 1-6C alkyl group or the like] and an α- haloester compound represented by a general formula [A] [wherein X represents chlorine atom or bromine atom; R1 and R2 each are the same as the above- mentioned] is stirred with an aqueous solution containing an anion represented by the general formula [B]: S2On2- [wherein n represents 3 or 4] and the above solution is separated from the aqueous solution.
