PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a POS system in which print density can be altered easily. SOLUTION: Print density of a DIP switch is set (S 401), and stored in a RAM (S 402). When the print density is altered, a data string is received (S 403) and if that data string is a print density command (S 404, Y), a decision is made that an argument is correct (S 405, Y), and a print density coefficient is extracted (S 406). The extracted print density coefficient is stored in the RAM (S 407) and a print density set by the DIP switch is overwritten. Based on the print density coefficient stored in the RAM, a print density is determined (S 408) and printing is performed.
