PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multisubstituted cyclopentadienone selectively and in a single-step reaction. SOLUTION: The method of producing a cyclopentadienone derivative of formula (I) (wherein, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each H, a hydrocarbon group or alkoxy, and may be joined together to form a ring) comprises contacting a metallocyclopentadiene of formula (II) (wherein, Mis a group III-V metal atom; and L1 and L 2 are each an anionic ligand) with carbon monoxide in the presence of a transition metal compound containing nickel, palladium, copper, ruthenium or rhodium. |
