PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roughness measuring instrument capable of easily performing preparation work such as centering work in a short time and capable of measuring roughness regardless of the size or posture of a hole. SOLUTION: In the roughness measuring instrument, the skid 126 guiding a probe 122 is attached to the leading end of a pickup 66. Accordingly, the excessive contact of the probe 122 can be prevented and it becomes unnecessary to align the center of rotation of the pickup 66 with the axis of the hole of a work with high accuracy. The pickup 66 is supported on a rotary shaft 74 in a freely shakable and well-balance state by a balance weight 104. By this constitution, the pickup 66 becomes possible to measure in all postures.
