PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image printing method which is capable of suppressing the loss of gradations in a low-contrast area without increasing a cost in printing of images by digital exposure. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element relatively low in a response speed is used as an optical modulation element for displaying the images. The irradiation time when the surface of photographic paper is irradiated with light from the respective pixels of the liquid crystal display element is controlled according to the gradations of the respective pixels and this irradiation time is set within the response time of the liquid crystal display element.
