A change in media mode can be easily accommodated. CPU (22) indirectly controls a front-end (21) including a tuner unit (41), a demodulation unit (42) and an error correction unit (43) by a common control command not dependent on the types of areas or transmission media. An application program (22A) of the CPU (22) generates a control command based on a pre-defined command set, for transfer to the front-end (21) via an interface (22B). A controlling application (40B) of the front-end (21) converts the control command transferred via an interface (40A) into a data format understandable by the tuner unit (41), the demodulation unit (42) and the error correction unit (43), for transfer to a driver (40C). The driver (40C) controls respective processing units based on the control command.
