A low cost image correction method and a low cost image correction device which can perform processings other than a smoothing processing such as the correction of a line width in accordance with the states of lines with a small circuit scale; specifically, a dot image correction method comprising the steps of storing correction data in accordance with a correction dot pattern in a window, judging whether the dot pattern in the window of a dot image agrees with the correction dot pattern or not and, when they agree, making correction in accordance with the corresponding correction data, wherein a plurality of windows are provided, the correction data corresponding to the combinations of the correction dot patterns of the respective windows are stored, whether dot patterns in the plurality of windows agree with combinations of the correction dot patterns of the respective windows or not is judge and, if they agree, the correction is practiced in accordance with the corresponding correction data.
