PROCESS FOR PREPARING FLAVONOIDS

A simple and easy process for preparing pharmacologically useful flavonoids exhibiting effects of inhibiting aldose reductase, extinguishing active oxygen, inhibiting carcinogenesis promotion, counteracting inflammation, and so on. Specifically, a process for preparing compounds of the general formula (I) by bonding a sugar derivative to a catechin compound as the starting material selectively via O-glycosidation and then oxidizing the resulting glycoside at the 4-position of flavonoid skeleton, wherein R<2> is optionally substituted phenyl; R<7> is hydrogen or hydroxyl; and n is an integer of 1 to 4.
