An oxidation process capable of operating on a batch or continuous basis is very effective in treating pollutants in waste streams and for treating ore containing streams for gold recovery and the like. The process comprises contacting the stream with oxidation gases which contain ozone. The process stream is then pumped under pressure to an extended tubular reactor to achieve a desired degree of oxidation of the materials in the process stream while maintaining pressure in the tubular reactor. The pressurized stream increases the solubility of oxidation gases in the process stream and penetration of oxidation gases into pores of process materials containing the oxidizable compound. The pH of the process stream is monitored and maintained to ensure production of oxidizing free radicals and to neutralize any acidic acids given off in the tubular reactor. The temperature of the process stream is monitored and adjusted to provide a temperature which optimizes oxidation, oxidation gas solubility and ozone degradation.
|
