PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor which makes it possible to set an air gap between magnets and a coil minimum by minimizing a warp in a coil base plate, securing an increase of the motor thrust, an improvement in the rigidity and the high positioning accuracy. SOLUTION: The linear motor LM has a stator 4 having a plurality of permanent magnets 2 disposed in parallel making the polarity of adjoining poles different, and a moving element 6A having a plurality of armature coils 5 given a movement thrust actuating with the magnets 2 of the stator 4. The moving element 6A is constituted of armature coils 5 which are disposed in a line along the movement direction of the moving element, bonded to a coil base plate 7 of electric insulation and non-magnetic property and a reinforcing base plate 13 bonded to the opposite surface of the coil base plate 7 corresponding to the bonding position of the armature coil 5. The winding of each coil 5 is wound perpendicularly crossing its movement direction.
