PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a vibration damping effect in a low frequency band, in a vibration damping device so as to obtain the damping effect based on contact action with a housing member of a mass member. SOLUTION: A contact protrusion 42 consisting of elastic material is formed on a contact surface 40 relating to a housing 14 in an independent mass member 16, a dynamic spring characteristic in an external peripheral surface of the independent mass member 16 is softened. In this way, a springing resonance frequency of the independent mass member 16 can be made tuning to a low frequency side, accordingly springing resonance of the independent mass member 16 is well utilized, so as to make it abut relating to the housing 14 even in a low frequency region.
