PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure while enhancing the reliability by interlocking a cam drum, a rammer and a chain plug only through cam coupling. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for charging a machine gun, rammers 21, 22 and a plate cam 23 engage the endless cam groove 5 of a cam drum 4 and a chain plug 1 engages the longitudinal cam groove 24 of the cam plate 23. The rammers 21, 22 and the chain plug 1 are reciprocated in the directions intersecting perpendicularly to each other through rotation of the cam drum 4. The endless cam groove 5 is provided with a stop lead 5 so that the cam plate 23 and the rammers, 21, 22 do not move in the first reciprocal direction upon rotation of the cam drum 4.
