PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping force adjusting type hydraulic shock absorber suppressing movement of a bobbin in a solenoid drive means to be capable of preventing a leak of oil to a coil side from a plunger side to be provided with a seal member. SOLUTION: Between a first fixed core 101 and a coil bobbin 100, the first seal 110 energizing the respective core and bobbin to a diametric direction is provided, between the coil bobbin 100 and a piston bolt 6, the second seal 111 energizing the respective bobbin and bolt to an axial direction is provided. The coil bobbin 100 is elastically supported respectively in a diametric direction and an axial direction by the first/second seal 110, 111, even when the coil bobbin 100 is contracted at low temperature time, its movement in a solenoid case 9 is impeded, a leak of oil from a side of a plunger 59 to a side of a coil 73 can be prevented, and stable damping force can be obtained by preventing generation of an abnormal sound and damage of a lead wire.
