The valve is biased in the closed position, and a handle (40) on the housing is used to move the valve to the open position. A sear spring urges the sear to engage the handle when the valve is open. A sear release is provided. A bearing is located in a recess of the housing and supports the release when the handle is in the open position. Dislodging the bearing from the recess moves the release to disengage the sear from the handle and close the valve. The sear spring is a leaf spring. The recess is a groove, and the bearing is a pair of rods situated end to end in the groove when the valve is open. The handle is pivoted to the housing. A damping mechanism slows the closing of the valve after the sear releases the handle. An Independent claim is also included for a monitor which uses the above valve.
