<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video coder that can estimate stuffing quantity for data to be coded before processing of variable length coding and insert stuffing to the data, so as to code the resulting data. SOLUTION: The video coder 46 is provided with a signal processing section 10, that subjects a video signal to applies DCT processing per unit per each macro block and quantizes the resulting video signal to generate macro block information. A syntax generating section 12 generates a syntax from this macro block information, in compliance with the MPEG standards and a variable length coding processing section 13 codes it. A count section 21 counts quantized DCT coefficient of the macro information, before coding and a count section 14 counts the coding quantity after the coding. An estimate section 16 estimates a generated code quantity, after the macro block information is coded from accumulated values of both the code quantities. The estimated code generation quantity is compared with the generated code quantity, a calculation section 17 calculates the stuffing quantity and the syntax generating section 12 generates the syntax.</p> |
