PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily remove random noise of an image reader. SOLUTION: This image reader includes sensor lines, 11, 12, 13, which simultaneously read the different image lines of a document within a single scanning period, and also read the same overlapping image lines during the repetition of the single scanning operation and an averaging means (not shown)for giving mean values, on a line basis, of the respective image signals, S1, S2, S3 coming from those sensor lines. Each sensor line, having a series of pixels C1, C2,..., Cn in line, is provided with output means which includes a transmitter register, 21, 22, or 23, and a floating diffusion amplifier, 31, 32, or 33. Each output means can be shared among these sensor lines, too.
