PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital VTR to perform carrying out fast-forward reproduction, without having to use a special circuit as a formatter. SOLUTION: The VTR is provided with a means for recording a queue mark at a position corresponding to the prescribed intermediate position for each recording block in the control track of a magnetic tape in the case of recording, a means for stopping the fetching of data into a memory and also accelerating a capstan motor at the point of time, when a prescribed amount of actual data in one recording block is stored in the memory in the case of fast feeding reproduction and a means for decelerating the capstan motor, when the queue mark is detected.
