PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a active pixel sensor(APS) using a reference signal which more accurately compensates noise or other influence received in a pixel cell. SOLUTION: In an APS circuit 5 using a reference signal other than a grounding signal for a signal processing, the reference signal is generated by using one or more reference pixels 20, 30 and 40. The reference signal generated from the pixel cells more precisely approximates noise and parasitic influence received in exposed pixel cells 4 and 12. By using tow or more pixels for one reference signal, an average photodiode voltage can be obtained. This configuration can be sued for improved common mode removal and dark current suppression.
