The invention concerns a disc prosthesis for cervical vertebrae comprising: a spherical cap (6) arranged on a first insert (5), while a spherical cup (8) is arranged on a second insert (7); two inserts (5, 7) produced in a ceramic material, one of the inserts (5, 7) being mounted on a first plate (2) while the other of the inserts (5, 7) is mounted on a second plate (3), such that the articulation centre of the swivel joint (4) is substantially centred relative to the edges of the plates; a spherical cup (8) having a contact surface at least equal to that of the spherical cap (6) and connected, via an annular ridge (15), at the base of the insert; and a plate provided with the insert with the spherical cap (8) comprising an annular clearance (18) to allow the displacement of the annular ridge (15).
