PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply initialize a phase transition type optical disk at high speed. SOLUTION: A long-length shaped laser spot 12 having the length of the diameter value or more of the optical disk 21 and initialization power is moved in the diameter direction of the optical disk so that the central position of the length of the laser spot 12 relatively passes through the vicinity of the center of the optical disk 2. Thus, the phase transition type optical disk is initialized at high speed with simplified constitution.
