<p>A method for reformation of self-oxidation and internal heating type, characterized in that a cylindrical catalyst member having a number of passages in the direction of its axis which contains a reforming catalyst, a shift reaction catalyst and an oxidation catalyst is provided, a mixed gas containing a hydrocarbon or an aliphatic alcohol and steam is allowed to pass through the catalyst member reciprocatingly, taking about a half of its cross section as forward passages and another half thereof as backward passages, while rotating the member, to thereby carry out a reforming reaction and a shift reaction and recover a hydrogen gas during one reciprocating passing, and an oxygen-containing gas is introduced into the member at the forward and/or backward passage; and an apparatus for practicing the method. The method can be used for reforming a hydrocarbon or an aliphatic alcohol with good heat efficiency.</p> |
