PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a charge power to a battery to keep and not to exceed a designated standard power regardless of the number of elementary batteries. SOLUTION: A battery charger comprises a power circuit 11 that charges by feeding the charge power to the battery B, an output-voltage detecting circuit 12 that detects the level of the output voltage to the battery B from the power circuit 11, an output-current changeover circuit 13 that switches the level of an output current to the battery B from the power circuit 11, and a constant- current control circuit 10 that controls an output current to a certain level that flows from the power circuit 11 to the battery B through the output-current changeover circuit 13, utilizing the level of the output voltage detected by the output-voltage detecting circuit 12. And the constant-current control circuit 10 comprises a control unit 100 that, utilizing the level of the output voltage detected by the output-voltage detecting circuit 12, judges whether the charge power to the battery B has reached a certain level or not and, when the result of the judgment is obtained, switches to the direction, through the output-current changeover circuit 13, where the level of the output current is lowered.
