PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost home security system by which each user receives a report indicating the occurrence of an abnormal state in his home by portable telephone independently of a security company and can recognize the condition of his home by a picture display device of the portable telephone. SOLUTION: This home security system is comprised of an abnormal state recognition means which is installed in a prescribed position in a space including an object desired to be monitored by the user and consists of an abnormality detection sensor and a monitor camera and a home security box which is connected to the abnormal state recognition means and transmits the abnormal state to the portable telephone of the user through a portable telephone network capable of transmitting a moving picture. When the abnormality detection sensor recognizes the abnormal state, the portable telephone of the user is called and a message indicating the occurrence of the abnormal state is transmitted to it, and the user receives the call and the message to recognize the condition of the object to be monitored on the picture display device of the portable telephone.
