The device comprises a conveyer (12), to which an opening device (18) is allocated. The transfer area (16), through which the displacement path (26) of clamps (24) runs, is situated at the downstream end of the conveyer (12). Th e clamps have two clamping elements (30) which can be displaced from an open position into a closed position (60') for seizing and holding an object (10) . A hold-open element (28) is allocated to the clamps (24). When an object (10 ) is seized by the clamps (24), said element lies in position between the two parts (22, 22') of the object (10) that have been separated from one another by the opening device (18) and is designed to keep the object (10) open when the clamps are closed (24).
