Knock regulation in internal combustion engine involves coupling cylinder(s) with faulty evaluation electronics to controler for cylinder(s) with intact evaluation electronics

The method involves retarding the ignition in at least one cylinder if knocking is detected by a system with at least two sets of evaluation electronics that are associated with at least one engine cylinder each and are functionally monitored. If a fault is detected in at least one set of evaluation electronics the associated cylinder(s) is coupled to the controler for cylinder(s) with intact evaluation electronics.
