The pivoted backrest (2) has an adjusting element (8). This is fastened to the outer faces (12,14) of backrest and seat (4), so that the vertical distance between the center line of the adjusting element and the pivot axis of the backrest is as large as possible. The connection points (20,22) of the adjusting element are located in front part of backrest and seat, as seen from the pivot axis (6) of the backrest. The adjusting element incorporates a length-adjustable blockable damper element on either side of the seat.
