PURPOSE: An electrode structure for PDP is provided to achieve an improved discharge efficiency, luminance and contrast. CONSTITUTION: A plasma display panel comprises an address electrode formed at a rear substrate; and a scanning electrode(120) and a common electrode(140) arranged at a front substrate in such a manner as to be crossed with the address electrode, each of scanning electrode and common electrode has bus electrodes(125,145). A dielectric layer(130) is arranged to bury electrodes. Each of bus electrodes arranged to the scanning electrode and common electrode has a thickness(t) which is thick sufficient to cause an opposing discharge. The thickness of the bus electrode is 1/2 to 2/3 of the width(w) of the electrode. An address discharge is executed between the scanning electrode and an address electrode, a surface discharge is executed between the scanning electrode and the common electrode, and an opposing discharge is executed between bus electrodes. As a consequence, the plasma display panel has the opposing discharge between bus electrodes, while maintaining surface discharge. Thus, high ultraviolet generation efficiency is obtained with a low voltage, thereby increasing luminance efficiency. |
