The method employs a device to feed large gas volumes/gas flows into the sewer. In a first stage, a large gas volume is introduced at a distance in front of the obstructed section, so that water or other fluid materials are forced backwards. In a second stage, and after a quick cut-off of the gas supply, the banked-up material impacts with sufficient kinetic energy on the obstruction or the material in front of it. The generated pressure removes the obstruction.
