摘要 PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for encoding shape information for interlaced scanning is provided to improve the compressional efficiency of information by determining an encoding mode according to a type and a motion of binary shape information, and by performing a motion prediction as the unit of a frame in case that the encoding mode is determined as a frame mode. CONSTITUTION: An encoding mode is determined according to a type and a motion of binary shape information inputted. In case that the encoding mode determined is a field mode, a feature of the binary shape information inputted is analyzed. In addition, it is determined whether a frame prediction or a field prediction. A motion of the shape information is predicted according to the encoding mode determined. The motion of the shape information is compensated by the value of prediction. In case that the encoding mode is frame mode and the prediction is the frame prediction, the binary shape information is encoded as the unit of a frame. In case that the encoding mode is the field mode and the prediction is the field prediction, the binary shape information is encoded as the unit of a field.
