The workpiece (S) is rotated about an axis and for fine machining is swivelled in relative to a first axis (X) so that the contact curve (L) arising between the tool (T) and workpiece is in a plane formed through the first axis (X) and a second axis (Z) which is orthogonal to the first. During fine machining the workpiece can pass by the tool whereby the contact curve runs in the plane formed by the first and second axis. Independent claim describes fine machining device with workpiece table and tool clamping means with telescopic program-controlled guide elements.
