The method involves determining and evaluating at least one vehicle dynamic input parameter and intervening in at least one tractor vehicle dynamic system to stabilize the vehicle dynamic state of the coupled vehicles if an unstable state is detected. A multi-stage intervention is performed by intervening into a first system, then increasing the intervention and/or intervening into a further system if instability persists. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for stabilizing vehicle dynamic states of a coupled towing vehicle and trailer.
