The procedure for installing a protective net during the construction and maintenance of overhead HV lines over vulnerable sites, such as roadways and railways etc avoids resorting to large and very expensive support structures and fixing the protective net between them. The supporting cables for holding at least one net are now strung directly from one pylon to the other and at least one protective net is suspended on the supporting cables (5) and then fixed, with the supporting cables mounted between the cantilevers (6) of the pylons (2,3), beneath the HV lines to be installed.
