In color photographic material with a base and spectrally-sensitized silver halide emulsion layer(s), the emulsion layer contains an oil former with pKa less than 18, a development inhibitor-releasing coupler and color coupler(s) such as e.g. alpha -(N-azolyl)-acylacetanilides, and alpha -(N-azolyl)-carbamoylacetanilides. In color photographic material (A) with a base and spectrally-sensitized silver halide emulsion layer(s), the emulsion layer contains an oil former with a pKa value less than 18, a development inhibitor-releasing (DIR) coupler and color coupler(s) selected from alpha -(N-azolyl)-acylacetanilides (I), alpha -(N-azolyl)-carbamoylacetanilides (II), 3-amino-1-(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)-pyrazol-5-ones (III), 2-hydroxy-4-acylamino-phenylureides (IV) and 2-carbamoyl-1-naphthols (V) of the formulae: R<1>, R<6>, R<9> = alkyl or aryl; R<2> = chlorine (Cl) or alkoxy; R<4>, R<5>. R<8> = alkyl; R<7> = aryl; L1 = a single bond or carbonyl (-CO-); Y1 = hydrogen (H) or carbamoyloxy; X1 = H or Cl; Z1 = a heterocyclic 5-membered ring containing nitrogen (N), linked by N; Z2 = H, alkylsulfido, arylsulfido or as Z1; Z3 = H, Cl, alkoxy, aryloxy or alkylsulfido; p = 1 or 2; R<4>R<5> may = 5- or 6-membered ring. An Independent claim is also included for color photographic material (B) with emulsion layer(s) containing an oil former with pKa less than 18 and a specified DIR coupler.
