Production of shaped cellulosic products by the amine oxide process comprises crosslinking an extruded and precipitated product comprising cellulose and an oxidized polysaccharide. Production of shaped cellulosic products by converting a suspension of cellulose in an aqueous amine oxide solution into an extrudable solution, extruding the solution through a die and an air gap into a precipitation bath, and washing and crosslinking the precipitated product, comprises the following features: (a) the cellulose suspension contains a second polysaccharide and/or a second polysaccharide is added to the extrudable solution; (b) the second polysaccharide is an oxidized polysaccharide and/or is oxidized before crosslinking; and (c) the cellulose is crosslinked with the oxidized polysaccharide. An independent claim is also included for shaped cellulosic products comprising a second polysaccharide crosslinked with cellulose.
