1,128,678. External shoe drum brakes. FMC CORP. 30 Nov., 1966 [28 Jan., 1966], No. 53529/66. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B8] A fluid conduit device for connecting two relatively movable storage tanks such as a ship's tank and a shore storage tank as described in Specifications 1,030,791 and 1,119,719, has a winch for raising and lowering the inner conduit and an associated brake mechanism. The hydraulic winch drive motor shaft 74 is connected to the winch drum shaft 76 by a slip coupling 64 and the brake consists of elements 86, 88 urged together by a spring 100 and released by an hydraulic actuator 108. The brake elements can be locked in the inoperative position by a lockout arm 138 which upon actuation of a handle 122 against a spring 130 and insertion of a pin 126 positions a wide bearing portion 160 between the brake elements to hold them in a disengaged position. Hydraulic and electrical interlocks are described, the hydraulic winch motor being deactivated when the brake is locked in its inoperative position.
|
