The compartment (1) is fitted as part of the inner trim (4) on the A-pillar (2) in the foot space (3) associated with the driver or passenger side. The lid (5) is designed to swivel about an at least approximately vertically aligned swivel axis. The opening of the compartment can be on the side facing the adjoining vehicle door. The compartment can extend over the entire width of the inner trim and has a detent mechanism for closing the lid.
