Sulphonated dis- and poly-azo dyes (I) of formula (A) are new. X = a gp. of formula (II) or a divalent -K- gp.: Y = a substd. s-triazinyl gp. of formula (IIIA) or a divalent gp. of formula (IIIB), -CO-(NH-K-NH-CO-)q-, -CO-K-CO- or -CO-CO-: n, q = 0 or 1; R<1>, R<2> = halogen, OH, 1-4 C alkoxy or opt. substd. amino; K = 1-6 C alkylene, 2-6 C alkylidene, 5-10 C arylene, heteroarylene, two 6-10 C arylene units linked directly or by heteroarylene, 1-6 C alkylene, 2-6 C alkylidene or hetero-atoms; or two 1-6 C alkylene and/or 2-6 C alkylidene units, linked directly or by heteroarylene, 6-10 C arylene or hetero-atoms; a, b, c = 1 or 2; a * c = less than 4; a + b + c = 3 or 5; if b = 2, the free valencies of X are linked to azo gps. and those of Y to amino gps.
