[Also in Divisions G3 and H2] A control device for use with an electrically driven apparatus for giving artificial respiration is operable to vary the number of respiratory cycles per minute and to adjust the duration of the respiratory phases. The respiratory apparatus includes two pumps, one of which supplies an adjustable volume of gas to the patient's lungs and the other transfers gas from the patient's lungs to the atmosphere, while an electric motor driven at constant speed is connected through a reduction gear to electromagnetic clutches which are operatively connected to connecting rods operable to actuate the pistons of the pumps. In the control device, spindle B, which carries cam E, is driven by electric motor R through reduction gear D so that each rotation corresponds to one complete respiratory cycle. Microswitches G, G1 G2, G3, respectively, are mounted on gear wheels F, F1, F2, F3, each of which is rotatably adjustable relative to spindle B by a knob, e.g. K1, connected to a pinion which meshes with the gearwheel F1, and thus adjusts the microswitch G, to a desired angular position relative to the spindle B. Microswitches G, G1, G2, G3 are connected to relays, e.g. I1, which control pumps 3 and 4 and valves 9 and 10 respectively. As the cam E is rotated, it contacts the four miscroswitches G, G1, G2, G3 in turn, thus controlling the pumps and their associated valves to produce a desired respiratory cycle.</p> |
